The Austrian conductor, percussionist and music educator Thomas Ramsl is one of the experts in his field. With his versatile professional coaching methods for big band-, brass-, symphonic- and musical orchestras, he manages with his many years of experience, wit and ability to captivate the respective orchestra musicians and participants in his rehearsals and concerts or in his seminars in practice as well as in theory.

 

Thomas Ramsl was born in 1982 in Krems/Donau. He completed his concert and instrumental pedagogy studies in percussion with Gerhard Windbacher and Kurt Prihoda at the University of Music and Performing Arts (mdw) in Vienna. During this time Thomas Ramsl taught percussion at the Bundesoberstufenrealgymnasium (BORG) Krems an der Donau as well as at the private ORG Mary Ward (PORG).

 

His passion as a conductor and "Kapellmeister" also began very early, and so he completed his Kapellmeister examination with distinction at the age of 18.

 

He received further impulses for his career as a conductor through a Richard Wagner scholarship from Christian Thielemann in Bayreuth and Maestro Mariss Jansons in Munich.

 

But Thomas Ramsl does not only focus on classical music, he is also at home in the big band genre. At the age of 16 he founded his first jazz orchestra (Lower Austrian Big Band) which later established itself as an international orchestra with musicians from 5 nations of the world as „Lower Austrian Concert Jazz Orchestra"

 

His intensive guest performance and concert activities as conductor and percussionist take him regularly to Germany, England, China and the USA. Thomas Ramsl has worked and performed with well-known Austrian and international artists/orchestras in the jazz, musical and show business: Bumi Fian, Martin Fuss, Robert Bachner, Harry Sokal, Gerrit Wunder(A/USA), Orchestra of the Stadttheater St. Pölten(A), International Orchestra Institute Attergau(A), „The Vine Street Horns"; (USA-Horn Section by Phil Collins), Ingolf Burkhardt (NDR-Big Band), Werner Schmitt (Hugo Strasser Orchestra), Joe Schwarz Big Band(D), Chantel Riley (USA), Neil Patrick Harris (USA), Karl Jurman (USA), Mats Holmquist (SWE), Mark Keller (D) and many more

 

At the moment Thomas Ramsl is writing his first book with the working title „Der Fokus der Big Band Leitung"; and conducts in Tyrol/Austria the Knappenmusik Schwaz, the Big Band Innsbruck as well as recently the very successful and well-known „Traditionsorchester“ Original.
